This post is all about these 6 healthy self care habits every woman should have.
Finding success- no matter what that means for you- is not something easy.
It takes a lot of effort, consistency, and determination. And along with it comes a massive list of tasks, commitments, and responsibilities.
And among those tasks taking care of yourself doesn’t always fall in the top 5.
In fact, self-care is probably one of the activities we neglect the most, ending in burnout and crushing our mental health.
The good news is that there is a way to make self care a part of our daily routines. And the best way to do this is by building self care habits.
Habits are the foundation of your routine and thus your days. But the truth is they are much more than that.
Because they are actions we repeat daily, any result that we have in life is directly related to our habits.
How’s that?
Well because every action that you make is a vote for the kind of person you think you are. When you take these actions, you build up evidence of a particular person you are.
So what are the best self care habits you can incorporate into your daily routine to take care of yourself and well being?
Let’s find it out!
What are self care habits?
If you search for the definition of habits you will find that it’s a behavior that has been repeated enough times to be performed automatically.
But how are self care habits different from self care routines or rituals?
Well, it’s very simple actually. The truth is there are many forms of self care going from physical self care activities to emotional ones.
So yes there is more to self care than bubble baths and pampering yourself. And there are also many ways you can practice it- self care habits being one of these ways.
These habits are meant to be part of your daily life and empower you to be the best version of yourself.
You want to build them in your life because they will challenge you, pushing you out of your comfort zone to grow in ways you never imagined.
How do you start a new habit?
I have a step-by-step beginner’s guide on how to build healthy habits in your life that you can read right here. In this post, you will also find the science behind habits and how to eliminate toxic ones from your life.
6 Self care Habits of successful women
She is careful with her energy
One trait that all successful (and confident) have, is they are aware of their value, of who they are, and who they surround themselves with.
There is a quote that goes:
“IF YOU HANG AROUND 5 CONFIDENT PEOPLE YOU WILL BE THE 6TH. IF YOU HANG AROUND 5 INTELLIGENT PEOPLE YOU WILL BE THE 6TH. IF YOU HANG AROUND 5 MILLIONAIRES YOU WILL BE THE 6TH. IF YOU HANG AROUND 5 IDIOTS YOU WILL BE THE 6TH”
Basically what it’s trying to teach is that you need to be smart about your environment and the type of people you surround yourself with.
You need to start being intentional and make sure that you are aligning yourself with people who have the qualities you admire and aspire to have.
Another important thing to learn here is how to set and respect your boundaries.
Boundaries are essential for every human being. And yes, stating those boundaries and putting limits can be hard sometimes (and I say this as a fellow people pleaser).
But you deserve to be respected. And the best way to do this is by learning how to properly set boundaries.
Remember that your presence and time is a privilege. Being in your life should be a privilege, one you give only to the people that deserve it.
Self care habits. Be responsible with her time
In today’s world, there are many valuable things. Money, diamonds, cars, luxury items.
But in reality, these things are only valuable because we chose to. When you put them in the “scale of life” the only thing that holds true value is time.
We all have a limited amount of it, and it’s something that you cannot buy, or steal. You cannot go back in time- and that is what makes it so valuable.
We spend our whole lives wishing we had more time, while mindlessly wasting the one we have.
And that is something you need to start changing. How do you spend your time, what do you invest it in, are you being present in your daily life, or are too worried about the future and the past?
Learn to be responsible with your time, to make every minute count.
And with this, I’m not saying that you should spend every waking second doing something productive or working, mainly because that will eventually turn into burnout.
Being productive is not the same as being responsible with your time.
There is a place and a time for everything in your life.
So what does being responsible with it mean then?
Well firstly that you make sure you are not wasting your days in a job that you hate or that makes you feel unhappy.
Fill your days with people, activities, and hobbies that make you feel happy and fulfilled. Be present in each moment because you will never be able to go back to it.
Invest your time in things the of things that will serve you in a positive way, that bring peace and calmness in your life, instead of drama and toxic behaviors.
She has a holistic self care routine
Before we talk about this self-care habit, let’s dive into the meaning of holistic.
Having a holistic self-care routine approach means providing support and taking care of the person as a whole, not just in one area.
For example, one mistake I see a lot of people make is thinking of self care as a way to only take care of their physical self.
And although most times these physical self care activities have an influence over our emotional self, that is just hitting the top of the iceberg.
So when creating your self care routine make sure that you are taking into account your emotional, physical, and spiritual needs because self care is rooted in transformational moments of care.
Here you will find the ultimate guide to creating your own holistic self care checklist!
Select nourishing food
The food we eat daily is the fuel that moves our bodies and impacts our mood, mental health, and well-being.
And the first step to having overall good health starts with the food you choose to eat.
Not because to lose weight, but because of the importance our diet has on our body.
This doesn’t mean that your diet needs to be based 100% on vegetables, healthy fats, and fruit.
Indulging in life’s pleasures is part of having a healthy diet as well. The goal here is to create an entire mindset around enjoying the food you want without guilt and finding the balance with habit n3.
Have hobbies that fulfill you
It’s important you focus on time for the type of activities that bring you joy. Not everything in life should be about work and responsibilities and sometimes the best way to disconnect is through your hobbies.
So whether that is reading a book, traveling, baking, or gardening make sure to schedule some time weekly for them.
And if you do not have any hobbies and don’t know where to start, I highly recommend you start with the things you used to love as a child.
This is a great way to not only reconnect with your inner child but also come back to your roots and a time when things were much simpler.
Self care habits. Have a healthy mindset
Another important thing you should be focusing on is having a healthy mindset.
Now this term can be very broad and vague. And truly a healthy mindset includes a variety of things.
So to start with I want you to focus on these two things. The first one is changing the way you talk to yourself.
The reason having a healthy mindset is so important is that this will influence literally every aspect of your life. From the way you react to problems to the way you think, act, and feel.
And your inner self-talk is no different.
Sadly, for most of us, our inner voice is more like an inner critic, constantly criticizing and commenting on every little thing we do.
But it’s time to change that because one of the best things you can do for yourself is create an empowering and safe space in your mind.
Doing this will give you the confidence and self esteem to go after your dreams and step into the best version of yourself.
Here you will find 5 steps you can start taking today to change your negative self-talk!
Moving on, the second thing I want you to focus on is your limiting beliefs.
A couple of paragraphs ago we said how influential our mindset is. Well what decides how toxic or healthy this is, is our beliefs.
Basically, they are the foundation for our mindset. But not every belief you have is positive.
You can have empowering beliefs or self-limiting beliefs.
Unfortunately, most of the time our limiting beliefs are the ones to control our thoughts and decisions the most. But the good news is that you can change this and flip your negative beliefs into positive ones.
You can learn exactly how in this ultimate beginner’s guide on self limiting beliefs!
Most time we say we will take care of ourselves in our free time. But it’s because we rely on this that we end up burned out ad unhappy.
Learning to take of yourself as a woman requires commitment and daily action. And the easiest way to achieve this is by building self care habits into your routine.
As you go along the journey it’s also important to remember that a true self care practice is always growing and evolving along with your needs.
Finally, be patient with yourself as you create these new self care habits, and don’t try to tackle all of them at once. Pick a few that feel approachable and go on from there.
