This post is all about how to build the best sunday reset routine.

Many times we start a new week feeling like are already behind. Between all the tasks, responsibilities and to-do’s there is barely any time to even catch your breath.

But here is where sunday routines come in. These types of routines are a great way to create balance, review and reflect and help you remain focused and productive without ending up burned out.

And in this blog post, I am going to share with you everything you need to know about how to build a perfect sunday reset routine that works for you and is adapted to your needs.

What is a sunday reset routine

As we said earlier having a sunday routine is essential to keep yourself balanced, focused, and productive, but what is exactly a sunday reset routine?

A sunday rouitne basically consists on a set of activities and habits that help you prepare yourself mentally and physically for the upcoming week.

It serves as a way to recharge, get organized, and set a positive tone for the days ahead.

But one of the reasons I love sunday routines so much is because of how they can help you to achieve your goals.

Even though we all start the new year with lots of motivation to accomplish all types of things that we think will make our lives better, the truth is this feeling doesn’t last very long.

And before you know it, half the year has already passed while your list of goals is nowhere near being completed and that sense of motivation is long gone.

But I’m going to tell you a secret- to achieve anything in your life (and I mean anything) the most important thing you need to be doing is taking small, smart steps.

Changing your whole life in a weekend is not going to help you stay consistent enough to actually see results. And before you know it you are back to your old habits.

That is why we fail to achieve most of our new year’s resolutions.

But that is where sunday routines come in. The great thing about these types of routines is that they are done weekly. This allows you to track your progress, be self disciplined, actually follow your action plan to achieve your goals and create long-lasting changes in your life.

And this is exactly what you want to focus on: what is the easiest way to create real change in my life while staying motivated and consistent?

Now I do have to say that taking small steps toward what you want most is not the fastest way. But what would you rather do: take small, consistent steps towards your end goal even though it might take a little longer? Or completely changing your life overnight to end up failing in 2 weeks or less?

Here are a couple more benefits of having a sunday reset routine:

  • Helps you stay focused on your goals and action plan
  • Improves your mental health
  • Decrease stress and anxiety
  • Better manage your time
  • Beats procrastination
  • Keeps you organized and in control of your week
  • Boost confidence when taking on life challenges

How to build a sunday reset routine

There is no exact formula for a sunday reset routine. And because we are trying to create one that works specifically for you and your needs, we don’t actually need one.

What I’m about to share with you are a couple of tips and steps you can follow to create your own.

1| Set your intention

Many people create sunday routines because they saw an aesthetic tik tok or because of famous trends like “how to become that girl”.

But before creating your own sunday routine I want to stop and think about why you are doing it. What do you want to achieve with this routine?

Is it to be more organized during the week? To have a calmer and more balanced lifestyle? Or to dedicate more time to yourself for example?

Writing this intention is important because it will serve you in two different ways:

  • The first one is telling what kind of habits and activities to include in this routine. For example, if your intention with this sunday routine is to have a self-care day then you will include different activities as if you were trying to boost your productivity
  • The second one is that having clear your intention will motivate you so much more to actually build this routine into your life because you are giving meaning to that action.

So whatever your intention is, write it down and make sure to use it as the basis of your sunday routine.

2| Have a weekly check-in

Whether you enjoy journaling or not, I highly recommend you try to include a weekly check-in as part of your sunday reset routine.

Firstly because we rarely ever take the time to check in with our emotions and feelings.

And secondly, because journaling, even if it’s once a week, has many great benefits like improving your self awareness, bosting your self esteem and enhance your mental health.

Another reason I highly encourage you to check in with yourself weekly is so that you can adapt your reset routine to how you are currently feeling.

It is no secret that our moods are ever-changing. And so are your needs. Journaling weekly will help you understand your feelings and adapt your sunday routine to them so that each week you can give yourself what makes you feel good and balanced.

Here are my favorite check-in weekly journal prompts to inspire your own practice:

  • How did you feel this past week? Is there something that you would change?
  • This week I want do to more of…
  • I will take care of myself by…
  • What would make this week amazing?
  • How do I want to feel?
  • My number one priority is…
  • My intentions this week are…

3| Plan your week ahead

I personally believe planning your week ahead should be one of your top habits during your sunday routine.

Not only because it will help you to boost your productivity, but because it will also help you to begin the week with a plan of action and a clear and focused mind.

Now there are many ways in which you can plan your week. But if doing this is new to you or you don’t really have a structure for it, here is a great template you can use:

Set your weekly intentions. Weekly intentions are like plans that will keep you on track with living well each specific week. Setting these is a simple and effective way to keep yourself focused and motivated throughout the week. But how are they different from your weekly goals?

When setting intentions you are shifting your focus from the output to the intention, to how you want to feel, rather than what you want to accomplish- which is the case with goals.

Here you will find an in-depth, step-by-step article to learn how to set your weekly intentions.

Set your weekly goals. Setting weekly goals is essential for many reasons. Some of the biggest benefits are the focus and clarity you gain, as well as a motivation and confidence boost.

When it comes to setting weekly goals the easiest and most effective way you can do it is the following:

  • Firstly review your long-term goals in all areas of your life. Once you have chosen the ones you want to focus on that specific week, break down those long-term goals into smaller, actionable steps. These steps will serve as milestones to track your progress.
  • Use the T.A.R.G.E.T method to set your weekly objectives. I already have an in-depth article on how to do this right here so I won’t go over it here.
  • Once you have your list of T.A.R.G.E.T. goals, make sure to prioritize them depending on their urgency and importance as well as progress throughout the week by keeping a journal or using a digital tool to record your achievements and challenges.

And lastly make a list of all the tasks, commitments, and responsibilities you have during the week and schedule them into your calendar/agenda. That way you will have an organized view of all your responsibilities and see where you will have some free time for your hobbies, self care time, family time, etc.

4| Create a master list of sunday rituals

At the end of this post, you will find a list of sunday rituals, but before you read it I highly encourage you to write your own.

Why?

Because it’s important to always try and do what is best for you and have your priorities and intentions in mind.

Personally, I believe the best types of routines are based on balance, which is why I like to divide my sunday routine into 2 different categories:

  • Chores
  • Self care/relaxing activities

Splitting your Sundays this way will also help you to build this type of routine into your life as it feels easier to tackle.

Now to write this master list you can start by thinking of a couple of activities for each of your “sunday sections”. While writing this list also remember to have the intention you wrote in the first step in mind.

So in the end you will have something that looks like this:

sunday ritual for your routine

Final thoughts

And that is all for today, my friend! I hope the tips and steps in this article will help you create your perfect sunday reset routine.

Remember that in the end, the purpose of this wellness routine is to create a little weekly ritual that helps you to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle and makes you feel good both on the inside and outside.

Finally, before we say goodbye I want to remind you that this reset rouitne is for you. What I mean by this is you should choose activities and habits that serve you and that you enjoy.

This type of routine shouldn’t feel like a core or like another item on your to-do list. They should make you feel refreshed and full of energy and motivation to tackle your next week.

So make sure that your sunday routine is flexible, covers your needs, and helps you maximize your productivity.

Here is an overview of the steps we discussed throughout the article:

  • Think about your intention for your sunday routine and remember that this intention can change from week to week so make it a priority to ask yourself what it is exactly that you need
  • Check-in with yourself weekly to get in touch with your emotions and identify what you need to feel balanced and relaxed.
  • Then it’s time to create a list of sunday rituals for each category. One of them is going to be for your chores-  annoying tasks that you never have time for. The second for your planning tasks: tasks that help you feel prepared for a new week. And the third one is for relaxing: calming activities that nourish your mind and body.
